Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!!!

We've celebrated different ways over the years (2008 , 2009 , 2010) but this year we went totally low key. Tonight before dinner we went out for Shamrock Shakes. It was a great treat to go out as a family and just chill for a bit. We shared about our day and just enjoyed the moment.

When I saw this shot on the camera screen, I was SO excited. Getting a real smile from Ally is hard, and I love her sweet little face in this photo. I was bummed though to get home, upload it, and realize that the focus is on the shake and not my sweet girls. pfffft. Regardless, I'm using it for my project 52 for 1 BIG reason: I set the ISO, F-Stop, and Shutter Speed correctly on the first try. This is huge for me. HUGE. It means that I'm getting it. Slowly.

Note to self- having all the numbers just right is only effective when your subjects are in focus, ha!

Project 52. Week 3 & 4

We had a great weekend filled with lots and lots of movies (by my count 6), yummy food, much hanging out in the living room, many laughs and just plain old family time.

For this week's project 52, I have this sweet picture of Ally reading to Bev. She's so proud of her reading and loves to show off this new skill. I love that the shot captures the moment, I like that it's a bit grainy (I had to use a really high ISO, the lighting in our house even in the morning is really terrible) and just has a raw feeling to it. I love black and white images because it forces you to focus on what's happening...not the colors (which Ally's Christmas jammies weren't helping any). I didn't do any editing other than dragging the saturation all the way down, and adding the text.

I never got around to posting a photo for last week. This one isn't stellar in composition but what I AM proud of is the lighting. I think I'm finally starting to 'get' how ISO, shutter speed, and aperture are connected. This is one of the rare photos in which the lighting in the photo is nearly identical to how it was in real life. No funky yellow tint here. The girls aren't patient with me as I fiddle and adjust the settings, so I take pictures of what I can...my sweet husband doing the morning breakfast dishes.

Project 52. week 2.

This is the only time I dislike being 6' tall.

I often forget that I'm tall. I'm used to seeing the tops of dusty fridges, the tops of men's comb-overs, being asked to get things off of the top shelf at the grocery store, etc. I'm not bothered by the fact that I'm usually the tallest person in the room (including the men). It's just a part of who I am.

But the one downer is shoe shopping. Not only am I tall, but I have gigantic feet. Most boat-sized-shoes are ugly. What looks cute on the display in a size 7, looks terrible in an 11.

Today, I happened accross the most adorable black peek-toe wedge espadrilles. I tried them on and they were adorable. Really, really cute. Normally shoes don't excite me; I'm happy wearing my reef flip flops everyday, but these shoes were SO cute that I almost bought them.

Almost.

But, I just couldn't do it. Because, although I'm totally ok with being 6' tall; I'm not quite confident enough to be 6'4.

random rant- why on earth are the biggest sizes on the BOTTOM shelf????? Seriously little people=little feet, right? So why put the little sizes on the top? This has never made sense to me. If you ever see me in a shoe store, I'm usually the one muttering curse words under my breath while squatting on the floor sifting through all the sasquatch-sized shoes
